Much of the rest of it requires an Azure tenancy & subscription. In fact any NoSQL implementation would probably work such as mongodb/Apache CouchDB. The reference implementation specifies CosmoDB but there is an emulator which can run locally instead of Azure. SSL cert is actually required (other articles I read saying http proved to be incorrect). Been trying this myself the past few days. The structure needs to follow the same manifest folder structure as Microsoft's github:
You add a source, it can be any http/https address (but not currently unc path to a \server\share).
